This is something I’ve been asking myself a lot lately. I’ve been redecorating my home office, which has, in turn, led to a bit of a clear out of all of my stuff that I’ve been hoarding for years. I was constantly finding stickers tucked into books or packed away into zip-lock bags.
I love a good sticker. They bring a smile to my face when one has been very kindly added to my Etsy order alongside a little thank you note from the artist, and they’re great at adding an extra quid or two to a basket to qualify for free shipping. But what the h*ck do I actually do with them
I think there’s something deep here about how stickers are designed to be single-use, stuck somewhere for the rest of time. But it’s so scary to commit to that, like what if I stick it in the wrong place?? - but I cba to get into that
I was inspired by Dave’s desk top, covered in stickers he’s accumulated over the years. But I didn’t have the balls to do that to my own desk.
Nevertheless, this got me thinking - what else could I stickerbomb? Naturally this led me to Pinterest where I found a pin of a stickerbombed serving tray.
I liked the idea of this more than using a picture frame because I knew that I’d be adding to it over time, rather than filling it all in one go. With a serving tray I could just stick new stickers on whenever I pleased, but with a picture frame I’d need to pick at all the little pins holding the rear cover in place, in order to add anything. I know what I’m like, I wouldn’t do this. I also liked the idea of wrapping the stickers around the edges of the tray, covering the "frame" with stickers too
I picked up an IKEA Ostbit for about £6 and began sticking. I’ve clearly not got as many stickers as I thought I did, so man am I glad I got a small tray - it’s about A4 size. Once it’s done I’ll stick some command strips on the back and stick it onto my wall. Does that make it a sticker too?
